Fish Report 9/15/22

Fish Report 9/15/22

Mahi Trips & Covid Recovery..

My last set of trips went toes-up & toe tagged. Not a single one. Never left the dock. First I cancelled for a NE wind — then it was my turn for covid.

Not at all fun. Dern glad it wasn't 2 years ago though. Had all my shots; took the meds. Weathered it OK if a bit longer than others. Was back to work (but not yet fishing) Thursday 9/14..

Meanwhile! I saw that wind coming and had a mechanic come nose around my port engine. Already running at $5.00 a gallon slow speed, why was she running hot - getting hotter?

Oh, gee, only two bad pistons?

So, OK, because I was down anyway with covid I decided to let the guys do their thing - a full rebuild to port.

Seems like there's always one more thing.. Wanted to resume fishing when I got well. Couldn't. Not quite right. Sea trials today (9/15) went OK. Not perfect. Can Fish & Shall. Resuming Fishing Friday 9/16/22.. Will have to figure out what that 'one last thing' is before long too.

Fishing Friday/Sat/Sun Mahi Trips (last ones? Have intel that I've not missed em all. Of course, they are fish. Could do anything overnight! September 16, 17, 18 - 6:30 to 5:30 - $225.00 - 14 sells out - drift one side where spot 7 becomes Captain's winch spot stb and spots 8 through 18 remain the same - puts everyone to stb and across stern.

Will announce more trips soon.

This reservation announcement closes with 9/20/2022 .. I'll see what  mahi are doing before I announce more trips.

Be a half hour early! We always leave early

..except when someone shows up right on time.

Clients arriving late will see the west end of an east-bound boat. Seriously, with a limited number of reserved spots, I do not refund because you overslept or had a flat..

Trips Also Sometimes Announced on Facebook at Morning Star Fishing

https://www.facebook.com/ocfishing/

I post after action reports (or lack thereof) (and sometimes detailed thoughts on fisheries issues) for every trip on my personal FB page and Morning Star page..

Bait is provided on all trips.

No Galley. Bring Your Own Food & Beverage.

If You Won't Measure & Count Your Fish, The State Will Provide A Man With A Gun To Do It For You. We Measure & Count — ALWAYS — No Exceptions!

It's Simple To Prevent Motion Sickness, Difficult To Cure. Bonine seems best because it's non-drowsy. Truly cheap & effective insurance.

Honestly - If you get to go on the ocean once a month, once a year or even less; why risk chumming all day? Similarly, if you howl at the moon all night, chances are good you'll howl into a bucket all day.

Bring A Cooler With Ice For Your Fish – A 48 Quart Cooler Is Fine For A Few People. Do Not Bring A Very Large Cooler. We have a few loaners - you'll still need ice. Should you catch some monstrous fish, we'll be able to ice it.

No Galley! Bring Food & Beverages To Suit. A few beers in cans is fine for the ride home.

In Reef News we sank a fifty foot tug on 8/24/22. Dropped it right on target to make a great dive reef for less experienced, but certified, divers. They'll be able to go from one piece to another to another - a fine experience. We had filmed one of the pieces nearby a few weeks before with Nick Caloyianis and friends. Several of the diver mugged the fluke pretty good. They don't even use a speargun - just a pointy steel shaft with a barb on it. Divers thump em in the belly so the fillets are preserved.

Pics and video came out quite nice. I've posted a great deal of it on Facebook under OC Reef Foundation. (Have found several OCRF sites that weren't legit - please report them.)

Have also just crossed to exactly 38,000 blocks deployed.

Wishbone doesn't replace backbone.. Have to keep a shoulder into reef building to make it happen.

Donations help too!Ocreefs.org
